Crazy Rich Asians - Kevin Kwan

Book 5 of 36.

I was so excited about Crazy Rich Asians (Crazy Rich Asians Trilogy) by Kevin Kwan. One of my favorite local bloggers had mentioned reading it and I thought it would be a good read for the beach (we went to South Padre Island to celebrate my 30th!). I’m sad to report I was disappointed and will not be reading the rest of the books in the trilogy.

Everything in this book was just so over the top. The prologue for example, included a scene in which a group of Asian woman and their kids walk into the most exclusive hotel in London where they had booked the biggest suite only to be turned away because of their ethnicity. The answer? Call husband who promptly buys the entire hotel. Buys the HOTEL. The rest of the book carried the same flashy and judgemental themes.

Even though I didn’t enjoy the book, I’m considering watching the movie. I think this may be one of the rare cases where the movie is better than the book. The ridiculous events probably translates better on the big screen portrayed by actors as a romantic comedy.
